In the book Penguin Rescue, the teaching focus is a factual recount. Students describe a rescue effort after an oil spill.
Wildlife rescues often occur after an oil spill at sea or other man-made pollutants have entered the natural environment. Do you know what happens when there is an oil spill at sea? The oils floats on top of the water and as oil and water don't mix, the oil coats anything that enters the water. The oil from a tanker ship is black and much thicker than the oil in our kitchens. It's very dangerous for any animals that come in contact with it because they cannot get it off their fur or feathers.
