Developing Literacy: Word Activities Book D develops essential skills in reading and spelling through word recognition and phonics-based activities. Through the investigation of words and spelling patterns students will build their vocabulary, sharpen their spelling skills and become independent in their reading and writing at all levels.
The activities are presented in a way which requires children to read the words rather than just guessing the answer. Sometimes they are asked to turn over the sheet and then write a list of words, a partner could read the words aloud for them to write.
Working with partners or in groups is encouraged so that children can check one another's reading and co-operate to complete the activities or to play games. It is also useful for the children to show their work to the rest of the class and to explain their answers in order to reinforce and develop their own learning and that of others in the class
